Sea Slugs of Hawaii
This little guy is called Glaucus Atlanticus. It is a species of sea slug that grows to around 35 mm. They float partially by means of an air bubble, which they swallow and store in their gastric cavity. They also have a rather unique defence mechanism – they store the nematocysts produced by jellyfish (their prey) in their own tissues to protect against predators.

I’m sitting here at Comic-con and I keep hearing about these Mondo posters. They are beautiful and the web is buzzing about them, but I can’t find out where they come from. The Mondo website is empty and the Twitter account gives only a few details away. Yet here they are and they are beautiful.

After reading a recent story about local blue whale sightings, San Diego photographer Jerry Allen shared a stunning image of a blue feeding on krill off the county’s coast at Nine Mile Bank.
He took the photo in November. “There were about 10 blue/fin whales that day. I now call it the ‘magic day,'” Allen said.
Allen said blues are very difficult to photograph. “I figure I’ll get a photo op about one time in 10 trips,” he said. “It’s also illegal to chase them, so you have to get lucky with an animal choosing to come to you.”
