Interesting enough, with twitter’s new terms of service, if you look at number 9 on this list of what will not be tolerated on twitter, you better watch who you choose to copy and not attribute.

I had a little conversation with Marcia Connor last week at Gov 2.0 Summit about this blog and the ongoing attribution issues, not just in twitter, but various media outlets.

Amy, great points. IMO, RT without giving proper attribution is not any different that copying and pasting text from any site and not giving back the appropriate link love back That’s jmho though – Swanny

I’m not certain that becoming an aggregator for other people’s Tweets makes someone clearly a top Twitterer for Gov 2.0, but I’m sure the politeness is appreciated.

I’ve noticed this phenomenon as well. Sometimes I think it’s a meme-like occurrence: I/you tweet something; those who follow us & who we follow also tweet it — independently — using similar language. Is this a mini-meme that has arisen? With breaking news/tech development/etc., sometimes it is. But I wonder….

I’ll admit that I, too, am sometimes miffed when this happens with one of my tweets (especially when I know that the person in question follows me).

The bit.ly url in your examples *seems* to indicate that it was lifted w/o attrib or RT.

I know almost anything goes on Twitter; but I am also seeking to understand what some of the norms are.
